On May 27,2025, Deputy Consul General Sun Liping of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, accompanied by Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office Li De and Consul Wang Longhao, visited the San Kiang Charitable Association in New York. They were warmly welcomed by the Association’s board members and representatives. The leadership team, including veterans Fu Xianqing, Wu Kai, Li Xingwang, all current directors in New York, key members, and representatives of Chinese students studying abroad participated in the symposium. This visit not only deepened the friendship between the Consulate General and the San Kiang Association but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation and exchange.

The San Kiang Charitable Association was established in 1929 in New York by Chinese immigrants from Jiangsu, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang provinces. With nearly a century of history, the Association has consistently upheld the mission of “mutual support and shared prosperity,” uniting overseas compatriots, promoting Chinese culture, and actively participating in the development of the Chinese community. It has become one of the most influential Chinese organizations in the eastern United States.

During the discussion, Chairman Bao Ronggang gave a detailed introduction to the guests about the Association’s recent efforts in promoting traditional Chinese festivals, supporting young students, organizing cultural activities, and helping new immigrants integrate into society. He particularly highlighted the Association’s active response to the Consulate General’s call during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing masks, protective supplies, and daily assistance to Chinese students stranded in the U.S., exemplifying a deep sense of solidarity and national spirit. Chairman Bao also shared how the Association, while preserving tradition, is embracing innovation—moving toward a younger and more digital future by engaging dedicated, caring, and culturally aware young people. The Association has also adopted new technologies, such as integrating AI into its website, making it more convenient for members to access the latest updates.

Deputy Consul General Sun Liping highly praised the San Kiang Association for its long-standing service to the Chinese community and its contributions to strengthening people-to-people ties between China and the U.S. She stated that the Association is not only a spiritual home for compatriots from the three provinces overseas but also an important bridge of emotional connection between the two countries. She was particularly touched by the Association’s sense of responsibility and compassion during the pandemic, calling it a model among overseas Chinese organizations.

Deputy Consul General Sun emphasized that the Chinese Consulate General in New York remains committed to the principle of “diplomacy for the people.” It will continue to strengthen its connections and collaboration with major Chinese associations, listen to the voices of the overseas Chinese community, support the development of these organizations, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese. Her warm, humorous, and gracious demeanor made the attendees feel welcomed, and the atmosphere was lively and heartwarming.

Before the symposium, Chairman Bao Ronggang and Managing Director Chen Qinlian accompanied the guests on a tour of the Association’s historical displays and wall of honor, reflecting on the nearly 100-year journey of the San Kiang people in a foreign land—marked by resilience, hard work, and selfless dedication. The guests expressed deep admiration for the Association’s long history and rich cultural heritage.

This visit by the Consulate General leadership was not only a full affirmation of the work done by the San Kiang Charitable Association, but also an inspiration and encouragement to all San Kiang compatriots in the U.S. Looking ahead, the Association will continue to uphold its original mission of “serving the community, giving back to society, and promoting culture,” actively advancing people-to-people exchanges between China and the U.S., and contributing to building a harmonious overseas Chinese community and strengthening friendship between the peoples of both nations.
